Amazon is reviving the Echo Spot smart alarm clock and is quickly giving it a 44 percent discount

With Prime Day deals ramping up, Amazon has unveiled a brand new Echo Spot ahead of the shopping event. It looks a lot like the original Echo Spot that launched in 2017 and was discontinued two years later, except the front is now divided into a hemispherical display and a speaker.

The Echo Spot’s exterior comes in black, glacier white, and ocean blue, and the display can be customized with six shades of magenta, violet, orange, lime, teal, or blue, which can be mixed and matched with different watch faces. The new Echo Spot costs $80, which is $50 cheaper than the original model — but if you’re a Prime member, you can get it for $45 through Prime Day.

Amazon says the new model has better sound and a sharper display. Time will tell whether the reboot suffers from the same screen-flickering issues as its predecessor. Otherwise, the idea is more or less the same: It’s a simple smart alarm clock that, via Alexa integration, can perform a few basic tasks, like checking the weather or showing song titles while playing music from your favorite streaming app.

Perhaps the best thing about the new Echo Spot is that it doesn’t have a camera. The original model had one built in, which was handy for video calls, but not everyone was thrilled about having a camera on their nightstand.
