Barbora Krejčíková won her second Grand Slam and first Wimbledon title on Saturday by beating Italy’s Jasmine Paolini 6-2 2-6 6-4 in a thrilling women’s final.

The Czech has had a difficult season, with many injuries and a subsequent drop in the world rankings. But all that melted away as she raised her arms in celebration of her victory and enjoyed the applause of the crowd on Centre Court.

Although she initially won by a one-set margin, Krejčíková had to use all her experience as a seven-time Grand Slam doubles champion and the 2021 Roland Garros winner to weather Paolini’s combative comeback.

The Italian, who was playing in her second consecutive Grand Slam final, led the match to a deciding set and held off two championship points before Krejčíková secured victory on her third attempt.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
