Nintendo revealed a disturbing new project yesterday simply called ‘Emio’ and while no details have been shared about it yet, new reviews in a trailer uploaded by Nintendo Australia to YouTube seem to shed some light on just how awful the experience will be.
Moving away from the family-friendly image we’re so used to seeing with Nintendo products, Emio will feature “strong themes, violence and suicide references” and has been rated ‘MA15+’ by the Australian Classification Board. A separate rating goes a little more in-depth, stating that the title contains “violence, cruelty, domestic abuse and suicide themes.”
Once again, Nintendo hasn’t shared any solid information about what to expect from this new project. The original announcement has the hashtag “who is Emio” attached to it, and the end of the official trailer has some Japanese text that roughly translates to “smiling man.”
In some related news, this all comes along with the discovery that Bloober Team (the same developer behind games like Layers of Fear and The Medium) is working on a new title called ‘Project M‘ for Nintendo platforms. There has already been speculation about these announcements happening simultaneously, and you can read about it in our previous post here on Nintendo Life.
