Florence Pugh Andrew Garfield to star in romantic comedy

Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield show off their romantic comedy chops in John Crowley’s “We Live in Time.” A24 has released the trailer for the romantic comedy, which hits theaters on October 11.

The film follows Almut (Pugh), an up-and-coming chef, and Tobias (Garfield), a recent divorcée, across several decades as the pair fall in love after a surprising encounter. According to the film’s official logline: “Almut (Florence Pugh) and Tobias (Andrew Garfield) are brought together in a surprising encounter that changes their lives. Through snapshots of their lives together — falling in love, building a home, starting a family — a difficult, foundation-shaking truth is revealed. As they tread a path challenged by the limits of time, they learn to cherish every moment of the unconventional route their love story has taken in filmmaker John Crowley’s decades-long, deeply moving romance.”

The trailer shows how their relationship develops over a period of 10 years, from the moment Almut accidentally hits Tobias with her car to the moment they tell their daughter how they met.

After Pugh and Garfield jointly presented screenplay awards at the 2023 Academy Awards, it was revealed that the stars of “Dune: Part Two” and “The Amazing Spider-Man” would collaborate on the cinematic love story.

“We Live in Time” will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. At the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, Paris-based film production and distribution company StudioCanal sold the film to A24 for U.S. distribution.

Nick Payne, who served as a writer on “The Crown” and penned the 2021 Netflix rom-com “The Last Letter From Your Lover,” wrote the screenplay and developed the script with StudioCanal.

The film is executive produced by Benedict Cumberbatch through his company SunnyMarch, along with Leah Clarke, Adam Ackland and Guy Heeley. Ron Halpern and Joe Naftalin are also producing for StudioCanal.
