Galaxy Z Fold 6 vs Z Flip 6: Specs comparison of Samsung’s latest foldable phones

Samsung unveiled the latest versions of its foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, at its Unpacked event on Wednesday. While the devices share many of the same features, there are some differences between their cameras, displays and, most notably, pricing. Here’s how the foldable phones compare.

This story is part of Samsung EventCNET’s roundup of news, tips and advice about Samsung’s most popular products.

Ultimately, the two foldable devices differ in approach: the book-style Z Fold 6 has a cover display that you use like a traditional smartphone, while the inner display folds out into a nearly tablet-sized screen that you can use for productivity and gaming. The clamshell Z Flip 6, on the other hand, functions like a traditional smartphone when unfolded, but has half the footprint when folded, making it small enough to fit in a pocket or bag.

One of the biggest differences between the two, of course, is display size. When closed, the Z Fold 6’s AMOLED cover display is 6.3-inches with a variable refresh rate of 1-120Hz, while the Z Flip 6’s outer AMOLED display is 3.4-inches with a 60Hz refresh rate. When open, the Z Fold 6’s inner display is 7.6-inches, while the Z Flip 6’s is 6.7-inches. Both inner AMOLED displays have a 1-120Hz refresh rate.

In terms of cameras on the back, the Z Fold 6 has a 50-megapixel wide-angle, 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle, and 10-megapixel 3x telephoto camera. The Z Flip 6 has a 50-megapixel wide-angle and 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. Meanwhile, the Z Fold 6 has a 4-megapixel inner selfie camera under the display and a 10-megapixel selfie camera on the cover. The Z Flip 6 has a 10-megapixel front-facing camera.

Both phones are powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. They each come with 12GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of internal storage, with the Z Fold 6 also coming in a 1TB option. Neither have expandable storage.

Both phones run Android 14 out of the box, and Samsung promises seven years of software and security updates. The Z Fold 6 has a 4,400mAh battery, while the Z Flip 6 has a 4,000mAh battery. Both devices have 25-watt USB-C charging and wireless charging. You won’t find a headphone jack on either device.

Price may be one of the biggest deciding factors when choosing between the two. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 starts at $1,900, while the Z Flip 6 starts at $1,100. But there’s one thing both devices have in common: They cost $100 more than their predecessors. They’re available to pre-order now in the US, and will be available on July 24.
