Las Vegas casino The Mirage must give away $1.6 million before closing

A Las Vegas casino is giving away $1.6 million in prizes over the next seven days before closing for good, as required by Nevada law.

The Mirage will close its doors on July 17 after more than three decades on the Vegas Strip, ABC7 reported Tuesday.

But before the casino can close, it must pay out the big cash prizes in unclaimed progressive jackpots from both slots and games.

According to the news station, progressive jackpots are payable to players and gamblers and any remaining balances must be paid out before a casino closes under Nevada state law.

The Mirage plans to pay out the money with guaranteed winnings from Tuesday, July 9 through Tuesday, July 16.

The casino, which opened in 1989, pays out $200,000 in guaranteed winnings on its slots every day from the first Tuesday through Thursday.

On Friday and Saturday, the price rises to $250,000, before dropping to $100,000 on July 16.

Slot machine prizes are expected to total $1.2 million, with an additional $400,000 to be won via table game jackpots.
