Man Arrested at Republican National Convention Had AK-47 Pistol, ‘Scream’ Mask and Security Uniform

New details have emerged about the gun-wielding man arrested Monday near the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

A criminal complaint has been filed in Milwaukee County Superior Court alleging that Donnell Tinsley, 21, was carrying a concealed AK-47 pistol without a permit, a mask from the movie “Scream” and an assortment of other items.

A Homeland Security Investigations special agent patrolling the outside of the RNC Monday morning spotted Tinsley walking about two blocks outside the RNC convention’s vehicle-segregation zone.

According to police, he was wearing a balaclava and black gloves, and was carrying a large backpack that looked heavy.

The federal agent detained Tinsley, who consented to a search of his backpack. There, the agent immediately found the AK-47 pistol, also known as a “Draco.” When asked if he had a permit to carry a weapon, Tinsley admitted that he did not.

Also found in the backpack were a magazine fully loaded with rifle ammunition, a “Scream” movie mask, a flashlight, two pairs of black gloves, sunglasses, an Allied Universal Security uniform shirt, two cans of spray paint, and several empty designer marijuana bags. Two cell phones were also found in Tinsley’s pants pockets.

After determining that Tinsley did not have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, federal agents took him into custody.

Court records show Tinsley made his first court appearance Wednesday morning. Attorney information was not yet available.

The arrest comes amid heightened security following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania on Saturday. Trump attended the RNC on Monday as the current Republican presidential nominee.

And on Tuesday, police shot and killed a man they said was holding two knives about a mile from the Milwaukee convention center. Police say the incident was unrelated to the RNC.

At least nine people have been arrested since the convention began Monday, Milwaukee police said Wednesday.

Three people were cited for misdemeanors, two were arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, and others were cited for trespassing or obstructing a public space. A Code Pink organizer was arrested Tuesday after an incident with Wisconsin Rep. Derrick Van Orden.
