CLINTON HILL, Brooklyn (WABC) — New York City health officials have confirmed two cases of measles among people staying at one of the city’s migrant shelters.
That shelter is the Hall Street Migrant Shelter in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn.
Health officials are conducting contact tracing to determine who may have been exposed.
The pool is confined to the first floor of the shelter where the two adult residents with positive tests were staying.
Anyone who does not have a documented vaccination will be tested for immunity.
Anyone who is not immune must quarantine for 21 days.
According to the health department, there have been 11 cases of measles in New York City as of July 12.
Last year, there was only one confirmed case in the city.
The migrant shelter on Hall Street has been a source of contention for Clinton Hill residents, who complain of increased trash, noise and homelessness under the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.
The measles cases may increase these concerns because the disease can be so contagious.
The good news is that it is contagious, but experts say the risk to the community is low because most New Yorkers have been vaccinated against it.
If you have not been vaccinated, you should contact your doctor urgently.
