LONDON (AP) — The Princess of Wales will attend the Wimbledon Sunday in the men’s final, a rare public appearance after her cancer diagnosis.
Kensington Palace confirmed on Saturday that Kate, the wife of the heir to the throne prince williamwill be in the Royal Box on Centre Court to watch reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz take on Novak Djokovic.
However, she will not attend Saturday’s women’s final between Jasmine Paolini and Barbora Krejcikova. Wimbledon organisers said the winner’s trophy will instead be presented by Deborah Jevans, the president of the All England Club.
Kate has been patron of the All England Club since 2016 and has ceremonial duties including presenting the winner’s trophy after each men’s and women’s singles final.
But she has made only one public appearance since announcing her cancer diagnosis in March, and that was to attend. the birthday parade for King Charles III last month.
Kate released a statement ahead of that event saying she was “making good progress” but she still had “good days and bad days” as she continued her treatment.
Prince William is also a regular guest at the Wimbledon final, but will not be attending the match on Sunday. Instead, he will attend the football final between England and Spain at the European championship in Germany. William is the chairman of the English Football Association.
Queen Camilla, wife of King Charles III, visited Wimbledon on Wednesday.
