About six months after launch, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League can be yours for free under two conditions: you have an Amazon Prime subscription and a gaming PC that can handle it. Rocksteady’s notorious, vilified loot masher is one of the three surprise games the company is giving away a prize for Prime Day 2024.
Between July 16 and 18, Prime members can go to the Amazon Prime Gaming Page and claim Suicide Squad, Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20th AnniversaryAnd Chivalry 2 to save from the Epic Games Store. For anyone unfamiliar, Rise of the Tomb Raider was the surprisingly good middle entry in the reboot trilogy, which was overlooked at the time because it started as an Xbox One exclusive. Those three are now also to the 15 other free games that Amazon has given away in the run-up to Prime Day 2024, including Hitman Absolution, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredders RevengeAnd Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2.
While Suicide Squad has a lot of problems, it’s not all bad, and I’d wager more than a few people are morbidly curious to see why some dedicated fans swear by it and why so many others treat it like the biggest video game car wreck of the year. I actually like the combat, which is more of a rhythm fighter than an outright shooter. The mission variety, character development, and loot are all largely underwhelming, though. But there are some really cool, polished cinematic moments – the kind you’d expect from the makers of the Batman: Arkham trilogy, even though the story ends abruptly and the eventual conclusion seems trapped in a live-service roadmap that is kept alive.
Suicide Squad would get its second free seasonal update this week which Mrs. Freeze as a playable characterbut the update was pushed back at the last minute until late July. And despite it reportedly being a $200 million flop, Rocksteady Studios has confirmed that it plans to finalize the game’s post-launch content listwhich could hold it until next summer at least. In the meantime, the team appears to be pitching single player projects like the ones who made it famous in the first place.
