Three finalists for Trump’s running mate are not expected at Saturday’s campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

The three finalists for Donald Trump’s running mate are not expected to attend his rally in Pennsylvania later Saturday, according to two people familiar with the matter. It’s a possible sign that Trump’s vice presidential announcement could come closer to or during the Republican Party convention, which begins Monday.

Sens. J.D. Vance (Ohio) and Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Gov. Doug Burgum of North Dakota will not attend the meeting Saturday night, said the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe the private deliberations.

Discussions within the campaign have recently focused on Vance and Rubio, with Burgum also in the mix. Trump asked about other names last week, according to people familiar with his thinking.

Vance’s absence from the rally — which is taking place not far from the border in Ohio — is particularly notable given that some Republicans had speculated that Trump would announce his pick at the rally. Trump held a rally in Miami earlier this week, at which Rubio spoke.

Trump has also repeatedly indicated that he is in no hurry to announce his choice, even as his campaign aims to decide on his running mate by Monday, the first day of the Republican Party convention.

In an interview on Friday, Trump compared the selection process for his running mate to a “very advanced version of ‘The Apprentice.’”

He added in that interview, on “The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show,” that he “would love to do it at the convention.”
